Visiting with Great Grandma Torgerson! 8/21/08

Jessica and I took Kennedy and Oliver to visit their Great Grandma Torg today. It was a lot of fun! Grandma made us a spaghetti lunch and she LOVED playing with the kids. We took TONS of pictures.

We also got to hear all about how Grandma met Grandpa. Grandma told us that she and Grandpa went to the same high school, but that she ran with the popular crowd, and Grandpa didn't, so they didn't know each other then. Grandpa's parents were immigrants from Norway, and they were pretty old. His mom was 48 when she had him! So, his parents were in their 70s when he was in high school. Grandpa's mom died of stomach cancer when he was a Sophmore and he was left to take care of his dad. Grandpa went in to wake him for breakfast one morning soon after and found him dead, too. The combination of all of that probably left Grandpa a little shy and a little more mature than the other kids his age. Grandma said it was this maturity that attracted her to him when they met in Mutual after graduating high school. I guess Grandpa remembered Grandma from when they were kids. He told her that he knew the first time he saw her that she was going to be his wife someday. That was when he was 12 years old and was collecting fast offerings at their house! Grandpa died of a heart attack while my dad was on his mission, so I never had the opportunity to meet him. That's a shame, because he sounds like such a great man!
